The Merlo Family has hunted trophy Blacktail deer in the the Western Sierra Nevada Region of Northern California for almost a century. While we may be considered an "Outfitter" or "Guide", we are most importantly stewards, agriculturists, and conservators of the land we hunt and share with our guests. With over 20,000 acres of some of the finest managed blacktail hunting in the state, the Merlo family heritage is focused on committed game management all the while striving to provide the highest quality hunting experience for every client.
Our resources consist of a variety of habitats; Oak wooded draws, grazing land, agriculture land and CRP. These Blacktail deer bucks typically range in size from 18- 21 inch spread and our hunters commonly take 22 – 24 inch bucks. All of our ranch’s are located in Northern California and are approximately 45 minutes to 1.5 hours north of Chico, Ca. With an abundance of wildlife in the area and fact that major portions of the ranches border several large federal and state wild life preserves, this serve as sanctuary for migrating deer in the area.

DEER PACKAGE
These are fully guided hunts with lodging included. You will be housed at our lodge or a local hotel. Food and spirits have never been a problem while hunting with the Merlo Family, whether you prefer a mouth watering steak at a local steakhouse or a family style meal at the lodge with a bottle of Merlo wine from our family's winery, Lago di Merlo Vineyards, you can tell us your preferences. Often we will coordinate a meeting with the ranch manager of the property prior to the hunt which will provide critical real time information on where and when the big bucks have been seen.
Achieving our success rate takes tremendous scouting and preparation prior and during the hunt. Our family heritage and tradition speaks for itself, words can’t describe the experience while hunting with Merlo’s and you are assured to enjoy the success of harvest on your outting. Whether you are hunting with one of our seasoned Guides or Rocque himself, the knowledge of the properties we hunt on will put you in the right locations and funnels each time.
